Feral Friday

In our town, there are many feral cat colonies.  When the economy tanked people could not afford their homes and they left their cats behind when they moved.

This week the caretaker of a colony near the mom's work was hospitalized unexpectedly, and for an indefinite period of time.  The mom volunteered to help and is taking care of them in the evenings.

This pretty little silver kitty was the first one the mom saw.

The next day she was surprised to see not one
but three silver kitties.
Look at that face!  OMC!
It reminds the mom of her first cat, Leia.

There are five kitties in this picture.
Can you find them?
It's a little eerie knowing there are a dozen sets of eyes watching you
yet you don't see any of them,
you just know they are there.

I've circled the third silver kitty and one of two all black ones.
They are all so shy, grabbing a mouth full of food and
running back into the under growth to eat.

Although this colony was TNR'ed
some of the cats look like they don't have clipped ears.
Perhaps they are newbies or maybe the entire colony wasn't caught.
Time for the binoculars!
And maybe the traps.

The mom's first cats, Attila (L) and Leia (R).

We wish everyone a great weekend!  Sunday is Oui Oui's & Mica Minnie Moo's Gotcha Day, so stop on by!  We are having a Comment-A-Thon here and a Post-A-Thon at the Tabby Cat Club to benefit PAWS, the shelter featured in Animal Shelter Volunteer Life with Moosey, Gracie, Zoe, meowmeowmans and Tracey.

Poor kitties - my human can't even fathom leaving a cat behind, no matter the economy!

*Thank you* to your mom for helping out. And purrs to the caretaker who now is hospitalized.

Our city has a lot of feral cat colonies too, some managed, some not. It's an epidemic no matter where you live, because so many humans still are uneducated or uncaring re: spay/neuter.

So kudos to all the volunteers who work tirelessly to help.

Peace.

Wow, good for Mom to help with the feral cats. That is terrific. Wonder if they haven't been fixed. Maybe someone could ask the person that used to feed them. Anyway, thanks from us for feeding them.

That is very nice of your mom to help out with the feral kitties. They look well-cared for, though it does make us sad to know that they were left behind and now hafta live outside.

They sure give you a glare, but sure they appreciate it indeed.

Sad that so many people see this, "throwing" cats outdoors for evermore , as an alternative to being responsible for their cat for the entirety of the cat's life.
Glad that your Mama is helping out. We know the feral cats appreciate it!

Thank you for helping with the TNR colony. We're sure the kitties appreciate the fact that they won't have to go hungry.

We hope their regular caretaker gets better soon.

Paula, you are so awesome for helping these feral kitties! It is worrisome that some may not be neutered or spayed. (Pierrot's ears are tipped--both of them!) I enjoyed seeing their pictures but feel so sad for these left behind ones.

Looking forward to the Gotcha Day celebration!

Our mommy would never ever ever ever leave us behind so it makes her sad for the kitties but we're glad your mom is helping make sure they have foods. They are very cute and we hope they are all TNR'd. Much thanks to your mom and the other caretaker too!

We will *definitely* be back on Sunday! It is so nice of you to have a commentathon for PAWS and it's so nice of your mom to help those poor feral babies.

It makes me SO upset when people abandon their cats (or dogs) when they move. Adoption is a *lifetime* commitment! I'll stop before I get started on a rant, LOL.

Mom Paula has such a good heart. It was excellent for her to take over these feeding duties. It's possible that people have dropped off kitties knowing that this colony existed making for the absence of tipped ears.
