Ok, Coconut Oil and the Bean, cause The Girl wouldn't touch it. She doesn't like coconut, not even when the oil doesn't smell or taste like it. Of course, she really wouldn't know cause she didn't give it a try. Kids!
The mom loves the stuff! Its a great moisturizer, but you have to make sure you don't have so much on that you leave oils spots. Another hazard, you could attract kitties, who lick it all off your arms. Skin abrasions could result.
It works wonders removing dry, dead skin. The air in the house was really dry this winter (cause the mom has forgotten how to work the house humidifier) so the mom got dry patches on her heels by her Achilles tendon. One application of coconut oil, and it all came off. And it took less than an hour to work. Really amazing!
A couple weeks ago, the mom went to lunch with her sisters. One sister started talking about coconut oil and "Oil Pulling". Have you heard of it? You swish the oil around in your mouth for a while then spit it out. Its supposed to remove toxins from your body.
The mom isn't sure she believes any toxin removal or detoxification theory cause she believes our bodies are so amazing, they are beyond our comprehension. We have to simplify it just to attempt to understand it. She thinks bodies automatically know how to detoxify without outside help. She could be wrong, of course! And it depends on the toxin naturally, mercury is bad no matter what! They also claim it can heal any number of diseases like migraines, kidney disease, leukemia, and the list goes on. Hmm, I dunno . . .
Some use Oil Pulling for better dental health, to remove bacteria and plaque from the teeth. Now that is something the mom supports wholeheartedly!
She found a couple links for those who are interested in more information:

We need to try some of that coconut oil
My human is really big on dental health because what goes on in your mouth can affect your whole body. Inflammation caused by gingivitis or tooth decay can actually lead to heart disease - this is a medical fact, not "new age mumbo-jumbo" (as she calls it, even though she DOES believe some of that stuff). And if you're losing quality bone material in your teeth, it could mean osteoporosis. So the idea of oil pulling is not that crazy - if it helps inflammation in your mouth, it will help keep the rest of your body healthy!
That said, you still won't see me willingly consuming any of that coconut oil stuff - I think it is nasty even if Binga does scarf it up!
I think that (for people) a good balanced diet avoids most problems. A little meat, a variety of colored veggies, assorted fruits, some red wine, a tossed salad, a cup of green tea, and a piece of dark chocolate for dessert and you won't have to worry about the latest fads.
For cats, meat, meat, and nothing BUT meat. LOL! ~ TBT
I love the smell of coconut oil, so I'm happy to try it.
Doesn't sounds like a bad thing to do, toxins are there and sometimes the body needs help, trust me on that haha but as far as these thing pulling them out, doubtful, they may just stop more from getting in you though.
We are sure finding more and more uses for that stuff, all quite interesting too!

That's really wonderful! We really really hope you're able to get some coconut oil into MMM. Won't it be great if we had Earth MMM back? ;)
Mommy likes the idea of putting the oil in the fridge (as mentioned by our furriends, Da Tabbies) so it's like eating butter. She says she'll do that for HER doses (she LOVES butter).
How much do you feed a cat? Fanks you.
xoxox
Poor Mica Mini Moo. We sure hope the oil works on you. Mom says if it actually works for migraines, she'd be all for it, especially if it also works for very dry skin. It certainly is being talked about a lot among the kitty bloggers. Purrs and hugs from the kitties at The Cat on My Head, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
We never heard of oil pulling. But the mom thinks we all need some of this coconut oil!
I so hope it works for MMM. I totally agree with you on how amazing our bodies are. I don't really believe in the detox theory but I'm interested in its topical application for dry skin but also for kitties with helping grow back fur.
we fink that MMM's Alien Eyebrows are AMAZING!!!
was that the question? no? oh, right. Coconuts. well, mebbe Mr. and Mrs. Whatthernames should give that a try. they often seem to need some kinda help. a bottle of coconut oil could sit on the counter next to teh fish oil and teh echinecea and golden seal. they are kind of a mess. Ackshully - I proll'y should try it too. I am a little skinny. A Ninja is supposed to be trim, of course, but still... I just hate to waste time eating and for some reason, the humans are puzzled and worried about this.
hope MMM doesn't grow eyebrows TOO soon, as I enjoy looking at her. She is so....shocked. pretty cute.
Mom has the WORST FEET!!! MOL!! She says she MUST TRY THIS!!! Soooo happy you will bring some to BlogPaws!! Thank you!!!
Love, Cody
I've been oil pulling for a couple of years now. I started after I had some pain in one of my teeth and my dentist said I had a cavity under my filling, so he replaced the filling and my tooth hurt even worse. Oil pulling helped a great deal.
It also helped a great deal with my keratosis pilaris (aka bumps on my arms) which is kind of odd. One thing I read about it is that the body absorbs the vitamins and minerals from the oil through the mucus membranes of your mouth.
I also have issues with sensitivity of my teeth, and oil pulling helps a lot with that too.. I think it has a lot to do with the increased saliva in the mouth having a chance to deposit the minerals on your teeth.
I have a very hard time believing it "pulls toxins" from you, and I haven't seen any credible studies (you think it would be easy to simply do testing for toxins on the used oil) saying that it does.. but I do believe it has great value because I have seen it.
I do oil pulling with coconut, olive and sesame seed oils - but not all at the same time :)
Teri started using Coconut oil on her face after she got Disco and his breeder said to use it on his skin to 'break down' the greasy buildup Sphynx get since they don't have the fur to absorb the skin oils. She is not sure it does much for him, but she loves the way it smells and it's safe and bland (in fact it's food grade and you could cook with it...Shrimps fried in coconut oil sound delightful, hahameow!
