The Tale of Two Traumas, Part I

Or, how to make the mom cry.

It started at 4:30 am.  The mom was abruptly woken up (ok, she's used to that) by the smell of an electrical fire (she's not used to THAT).  After wandering through the house and noticing the furnace was making a strange clicking noise, but not coming on, she fiddled with it then turned it off.

Today's photos are of the many innocent faces of Oui Oui.

She called the power company as soon as they opened and they came out that day.  Mica Moo was in her "safe room" while the repair man was there but the other kitties were free, no where to be seen.  The mom kept a close lookout on the doors so no one could escape.

She didn't see Oui Oui at 1 pm, she didn't see Oui Oui at 4:30 pm, she didn't see Oui Oui at 7:30 pm.  Starting to really worry because the man left at 3:30 and Oui Oui isn't one to hide for hours, she started looking.  She looked for an hour using a flashlight to see into and under every thing she could think of.  No Oui Oui.  She called Oui Oui, shook, rattled and dispensed treats, called The Girl to see if she knew of any special kitty places.  No Oui Oui.

She walked the neighborhood, calling for Oui Oui, which, by the way, is done in this manner, "Mew, Mew, Oui Oui" with a lyrical, French accent.  Naturally, most of the neighbors were outside, not at a restaurant or movie enjoying themselves like they should have been.  The mom is sure they have every right to think she is a psychotic, not crazy, cat lady.  Having Mew Mew Oui Oui'd her way around in every direction so as to convince as many people as possible how nuts she is, she went back inside.

By now, she was in tears, thinking how poor Oui Oui may be hanging or slowly strangling in an obscure corner, unable to respond, slowly dying.  She talked The Girl into coming home if Oui Oui didn't show up for breakfast.  (Does she wonder where The Girl learned to be a Drama Queen?)

Around 9:30, the mom thought she'd try to put it out of her head for awhile then hunt again, so she sat down and fired up the laptop.  While she was looking over her inbox and wiping tears away, she looked over, and there was Oui Oui, bright eyed and innocent looking.  They looked at each other and Oui Oui proceeded to claw her scratcher, as though nothing had happened.

Yup, this is the innocent face that looked at the mom
after listening to her calling for hours.
BTW, Oui Oui always comes running when called
(or almost always we suppose).

The words from the mom!  How she wanted to strangle that little stinker, who had to have heard her calling for hours, who must have been within inches of where she walked.  She KNEW she was being called.  She IGNORED the rattling treats.  Not a squeak out of her, and then to just show up all innocent like!  All we can say, that Oui Oui sure has one great hiding place!  The miscreant!

Note regarding the furnace:  It was the motor, which was just replaced in December.  They replaced it again but had to order the correct motor.  So the Furnace Fun may not be over!  At least it was under warranty.

Oh! The Human has so much sympathy!!! I have done that to the Human a time or two myself. Once, having totally given up on the indoors, she was out in the street looking under parked cars for an hour, wiping away tears, while I was comfortably situated behind some shelving in the (enclosed) back porch. Poor Humans. I guess I do feel kind of sorry for them.

Oh, your poor mom. Seriously. Ours would have been sick to her stomach with fear and worry and been popping Gravol (anti-nausea medication), so she has only the utmost sympathy for your human.

We confess we've been known to do that too, and Annie was very good at that as well. We're quite sure we've managed to take years off our human's life, which probably is a service to her in the long run. LOL.

Well first, thank goodness Oui Oui is safe!!! They sure know what they are doing. Cody did that to me once and I thought I would die! I had my husband outside, I was crying, he ignored treats, everything! Then...like Oui Oui turned up looking all innocent! Thank goodness!
Glad the furnace situation is working out too!

Oui Oui
Boo did that to Mom one time. Mom was outside in her PJ's calling for her and crying when she couldn't find her, and then Jinx went to the closet and Dad opened it and out popped Boo. Were they ever surprised! We are just glad you are OK!

Oui Oui, we bet you were getting back at your mom for letting that strange man in the house. We don't like worker guys either.

I did that once too...hid and wouldn't come out even though the mom called and called and tried to bribe me with all sorts of good stuff. I made her late for a party...heheheh...serves her right.

OMC, Oui Oui! You had us worried, too. One of our cats who came before, Radcliffe, did that to the head peep years ago the day after a 1,000 mile move. There wasn't even any furniture to hide behind! The head peep was in tears, when Rad reappeared 8 hours later. After much investigation, there was a hole in the side of one of the kitchen cabinets that led into a void, and Rad had hidden there all day.

We're glad to hear that the furnace is under warranty. You have had enough trauma from Oui Oui without any additional from the furnace.

But Oui Oui looks so innocent in all her pictures. I loved the thought of calling for her in a French accent throughout the neighborhood but I'm sorry about all the grief. Why do kitties love to do that?! Still, she really works the innocent look. Ugh, I just realized there's a part 2. I can't imagine.

p.s. I'm glad the furnace was fixed or is going to be fixed.

We were very worried when we started reading this post. We are so glad Oui Oui was just hiding, but it's not nice to scare the mom like that!

Glad your heater is under warranty. We just had to get a new one!

THAT is one of THE most frightening things ever...to think our babies are outside when they are indoor babies and would be killed or injured..be hungry..all of the fears. I have been thru that exact thing with Admiral when she was 7. SCARED ME TO DEATH! She was deeply buried in a closet. When she emerged I was so happy and so pi**ed off I didn't know which way to feel.

What a little stinker Oui Oui is. Nine times out of 10, when one of us is missing, we have managed to sneak into the basement when the humans weren't looking. Glad Oui Oui wasn't really lost. We bet she had a good laugh at your mom's expense! Purrs and hugs from the kitties at The Cat on My Head, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
