What's In A Name?

Sugar and spice and everything nice!  Today we are sponsoring an event at the Tabby Cat Club cause we love Naming and Gotcha stories so.  We thought we all would tell our stories here, instead of just Oui Oui's.

Oui Oui

My real name is Sweet Pea.  Sometimes the beans call me that, but mostly its Oui Oui.  The Girl insisted on the name Sweet Pea for obvious reasons.  I never fight and I love everyone.  When the mom brought me home from the shelter and let me out of the PTU I was so happy to have my freedom I ran all over the room.  I ran around and around for 20 minutes, occasionally stopping to bat or sniff a toy.  The peeps were laughing so hard, but I didn't care!  The mom wanted to name me Jubilee but the girl was stubborn.  It could be Sweet Pea, or it could be Sweet Pea.

I am so happy to play, and I am always ready anytime anyone wants to have some fun, so the mom started calling me "Oui Oui", cause I never say no.  In fact, when The Girl left to go to collich, the mom was worried I would be lonely, so she got me my very own pet kitty to play with and that's why we gotcha'd Mica Minnie Moo.  I have other nicknames too.  Twinkletoes because of the flash of my feet when I run.  Sugar Bee cause I am sweet and always busy.  Whippy Tail after my famous whippy tail dance, and a few others the mom is too old to remember.

Carl

My full name is Carlos Raphael Camaro.  The Girl named me after a boy she knew and the Baltimore Orioles Slugger, Rafael Palmeiro.  Being 5 years old, she didn't quite get the name right but that's ok cause the mom didn't spell it right either!   Baseball player or sports car, I think they are both manly!

Mica Minnie Moo

My name was almost Maiko (Japanese for an apprentice Geisha) but the mom and Girl liked the name the shelter gave me better, so they left it at Mica (which means "beloved").  There is a family tradition, any tortie or calico must have "Minnie" in their name, in honor of the mom's grannie.  Moo was my nickname and since Mica Minnie didn't sound right, it was added to my full name.  Miss Hiss, Waddles and Chunky Monkey are more of my nicknames.  I am not sure why.

Julie

She was sweet.  She was adorable.  And she needed a name quickly.  So she was named Jewell.  (The girl at the vets spelled it with 2 "L"s.)  Her nicknames are Julia, Juliette, Julianne and La B*tch.

We'd love to read your stories in a comment or a post!  We hope you had fun reading our stories.

My human had my name before she had me! She knew she was going to put me on the internet and punk rocker that she is, she had been in the habit of naming her cats things like "Asshole" and "Harlot," and she wanted something more family-friendly. But trust me, I grew into my name very quickly.

Love the naming stories. Alex was given to my husband by his girlfriend Allison at the time. They named the cat after her... which is a tad awkward when you are the new girlfriend, but a million years later, Alex is just Alex

I love your naming stories and think that the name Jubilee is beautiful even though it wasn't chosen :-)

We told Archie's story today too!

What great nicknames you have. Mum had chosen us (un-named at the RSPCA) and while she waited for them to do checks on her to make sure she wasn't a mad cat killer before she could take us home she chose our names. The name Lucy was given to me because I'm a quick mover and Hannah was given to her because she was more sedate. Boring or what!

Hey Oui-Oui, did you know that, in France, the English children's character NODDY is called OUI-OUI?

MMM, we are thrilled to hear that you too have a Japanese name, like all of us!

Those were very interesting stories on how you got your name.

I know you read about my GOTCHA, well my name was Abby and Mom knew I had been through so much upheaval she didn't want to change that, so she kept calling me my name. I would have thought she was nuts if she had called me something else cuz I made it pretty darn clear to her what the rules were.

One of them was NOT to change my name.

Bravo! We love the stories of how you got your names, dear friends!

Sorry we did not participate in your "What's in a Name" event. Our dad was away on a business trip, and ran out of time. :(

Hugs to you all!

When Jen found me she called me puppy while she tried to find my owner. After no success, she decided to call me Beau, but I was such a pain in the butt that quickly changed to Rumpy. woo woo woo!
